Long slender feathers make great sand eel patterns tied on from back of the hook, as streamer wings for both fresh and saltwater, or you can make fuzzy bodies at your preference. Fibers on the herl do not absorb water like Ostrich, alternative uses for dry fly bodies, wooly worms, nymph legs etc.
