Housatonic River Fishing Report (Litchfield Co. CT)

Posted by Jack Wilkinson

We got some rain, the Housatonic is flowing again! The flow is around 350 cfs (Falls Village) at the moment in comparison to most of the summer where it's been around a 100 cfs. With the rain the water temperature is finally breaking which is a great sign for the fall trout fishing. Let's hope for more percipitation. I've been hearing lots of reports from the Housatonic about the smallmouth bass fishing and shown pictures of some lovely 2-3lb fish. Streamers and the top water popper bite has been moving smallmouth. Trout fishing should be getting started again in a couple weeks with a decrease in the water temperatures. At the moment most of the daytime water temp is around 70 degrees and high 60's in the early morning. So very shortly we should be in business. Bug activity is currently flying ants, blue winged olives, and isonychia have been present on the water so when temperatures are better make sure to have them ready in your fly box.
